Neighborhood

The Promontory Apartments are located in a vibrant, diverse neighborhood with a one of a kind view of Lake Michigan.

Kenwood Academy High School is 20 minute walk north to the north. Several excellent private elementary schools and high schools are also nearby. The University of Chicago campus is a 20 minute walk to the west.

Recreation:
Hyde Park provides ample space for reflection and recreation year round, with its beaches and parks like Promontory Point (for which our building was named) and Jackson Park, a world-renowned destination for migratory birds. Tennis courts, golf courses, playgrounds, and the 22-mile-long Lakefront Trail are right outside our doors.

Business Commuting and Travel:
Promontory Apartments are convenient for commuters who work downtown or in other neighborhoods, cities, states or internationally. Just two blocks away are stops for CTA buses that run 24 hours to provide easy access north to the Loop and west to the Green and Red CTA train stations and Midway International Airport. Four blocks away, the Metra Electric train station offers quick access north and south, and even east to the Michigan Dunes, or Notre Dame University. Zip cars are available in the Park District parking lot across the street. A city bike rental station (DIVVY) is around the corner.

Within four blocks you can dine on deli, Japanese, Thai, Korean, Mexican, French, Argentinian, Italian, Vietnamese, Middle Eastern cuisine. Independent coffee shop and bakeries are around the corner.

Entertainment & Night Life:
Next door, the Museum of Science and Industry is a reminder of the neoclassical buildings made popular at the White City of the 1893 Columbian Exposition, which announced Chicago’s return to the world stage after the devastating fire of 1871. Still a magnet for visitors, the MSI will be joined in Jackson Park soon by the Obama Presidential Center. The Smart Museum, the DuSable Museum, the Oriental Institute, the Renaissance Society and several other museums, as well as many examples of Frank Lloyd Wright’s architecture — including the Robie House — are within walking distance. The University of Chicago features an extensive calendar of cultural programs during the academic year, including dramas at the Court Theater, music from Chicago Presents, and film series at DOC films. First-run movies can be caught at the Harper Theater. Hyde Park is home to jazz festivals and a jazz-oriented performing arts center also called the Promontory!
